Group: 24

Number: 94-03

Date: January 31, 1994

Subject:
Engine Control Module, Replacing

Model(s):
Golf/Jetta m.y. 93 and 94 up to VIN RM 045 558

Condition

If the ECM in a model year 1993 or early model year 1994 vehicle (2.0 Liter engine only) requires replacement, use ECM, Part No. 037 906 258 AA.

This ECM is a universal part that is correct for all 50 state/Canada vehicles with manual or automatic transmission.

NOTE:
When the replacement ECM is installed in vehicles with an automatic transmission, the idle rpm will be reduced to 670 rpm when in a forward drive gear.

Service

Perform the following modification when installing the ECM, Part No. 037 906 258 AA in a California Emission Vehicle (check Emissions Compliance label on vehicle).

If the original ECM was Part No. 037 906 258 F or 037 906 258 G, a wire from pin 10 of the ECM connector (T68/10) to Ground must be added. The added wire is required to activate the EGR system.

If the original ECM was Part No. 037 906 258 T the wire already exists and no modification is necessary.

- Prepare one 18 ga. wire, 12 inches long, using terminals and grommet shown

- Connect wire to pin 10 of ECM connector (T68/10), install grommet and attach remaining end of wire to ECM bracket mounting stud.

- Secure wire to harness with a tie-wrap.

CAUTION:
Part numbers are for reference only. Always check with your Parts Dept. for latest parts information.
