SERVICE INFORMATION
The "Montreal Protocol", a treaty which limits the production of Chloroflourocarbon 12, commonly known as "Freon" or R-12 was signed by the United States and thirty other Countries in 1987. CFC emission depletes the ozone layer, which causes increased harmful ultraviolet radiation. As a result of this treaty, the production and use of "Freon" or R-12 is being phased out.
A new environmentally-friendly refrigerant R-134a has been developed and will be introduced into the Volkswagen of America product line starting with the new 1993 Eurovan which will arrive in July, 1992 and 1993 Golf/Jetta in October, 1992. In the future, R-134a based air conditioning systems will continue to replace R-12 systems until all models are converted by law in 1995.
As you are well aware, the venting of R-12 refrigerant into the atmosphere is prohibited by law. Government legislation will also prohibit the venting of R134a into the atmosphere.
Due to the chemical incompatibility of the new R134-a with R-12 refrigerant, a separate new set of equipment is required. If R134a is introduced to any used R12 equipment such as Manifold gauge sets, vacuum pumps, recycling or charging stations, the equipment will be irreversibly damaged. Fittings, hoses, lubricants and even seals are completely different from R-12 equipment and can not be interchanged!
The ACR4 system exceeds all SAE/EPA standards for recycled R-134a and has been approved by Underwriter Laboratory and Canadian Standards Association. The ACR4 features single pass/continuous loop recycling, automatic air purge and automatic shutoff as standard equipment. Additional Microprocessor controlled Automatic features and a control panel which can be set to either English or Metric makes this unit extremely user friendly to the technician.
The Kent-Moore ACR4 comes complete with one 50 lb. DOT-approved refillable storage tank, video tape, and instructions. AC4 Replacement Filters and Vacuum Pump Oil can be obtained directly from Kent-Moore.
