Fox 1.8L Digifant II (Federal)

  1. Disconnect wiring harness from Hall Effect control unit. Connect LED tester to wiring harness terminals No. 2 and 6. See Fig 1 . Crank engine and observe LED tester. If LED tester does not flicker, replace distributor.
  2. If LED tester flickers, check Hall Effect control unit as follows. Ensure ignition coil is okay. Connect Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) between terminals No. 2 and 4. See Fig 1 .
  3. Turn ignition on. DVOM should indicate battery voltage. Turn ignition off. Check continuity of wiring harness between coil terminal No. 1 and Hall Effect control unit wiring harness terminal No. 1. If continuity does not exist, repair wiring harness.
  4. If continuity is okay, reconnect Hall Effect control unit. Connect DVOM between ignition coil terminals. Turn ignition on. DVOM must indicate a minimum of 2 volts for 1-2 seconds, then drop to zero volts. If voltage is not as specified, replace Hall Effect control unit.
