Beginning with vehicles produced in August 1991, the Passat has an ABS/EDL control module, Part No. 535 907 379 F, with a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory that can be interrogated in operating mode 1, "Rapid data transfer".

On vehicles produced up to July 1991 with ABS control module, Part No. 535 907 379 E, the DTC Memory is read using operating mode 2, "Blink code output".
