EGR Temperature Sensor: Testing and Inspection

TOOL REQUIREMENTS

Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM)
Test Connector kit VW 1594 or Equivalent
Refer to Tools and Equipment for test equipment specifications.

TEST PROCEDURE

- Disconnect EGR temperature sensor harness connector.

EGR Temperature Sensor:

- Remove EGR temperature sensor from the EGR valve.

- Switch multimeter to resistance range of 200,000 ohm.

- Connect multimeter to terminals of the EGR temperature sensor.

- Submerge the sensor in boiling water, i.e. 176° - 212°F (80° - 100°C) the resistance should be:

- Between 80,000 and 160,000 ohms

^ IF NOT replace sensor.

^ IF YES, re-install sensor, torque to 15 ft.lb. (20 Nm).

- Reconnect EGR temperature sensor harness connector.
