Cold Start Valve
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 1992 Volkswagen Passat, 1992 Volkswagen Jetta, 1992 Volkswagen Golf, 1992 Volkswagen GTI, and 1992 Volkswagen Fox. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Engine temperature must be less than 85°F (30°C). Disconnect cold start valve mounting screws and remove valve with harness connector and fuel line attached.
- Remove and jumper ignition coil secondary wire to ground. Attach metal housing of cold start valve to ground. Direct cold start valve injector into a clean container. See Fig 1 . Have assistant turn ignition switch to START position and observe cold start valve spray pattern.
- The valve should deliver a consistent cone-shaped pattern until thermo time switch interrupts fuel flow. Ensure valve does not leak after fuel flow stops. If spray pattern is uneven or inconsistent, check for plugged or defective cold start valve. If valve does not function, proceed to THERMO TIME SWITCH below.
