CONDITION

The Airbag "On Board Diagnostic" (OBD) system on 1990-1993 Model Year Volkswagon Cabriolets can only be checked with the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) using program card No. USA/3 or USA/3A.

SERVICE

Do not use the new VAG 1551 program card No. USA/4 for the 1990-93 Cabriolet Airbag OBD system. This card was issued in January 1994 and, due to a design change, does not allow access into the Airbag OBD system (address word 57).

NOTE: Affix red "Attention" sticker shown in Fig 1 , on left front top edge of VAG 1551 Scan Tool. See Fig 2 , arrow.

Prior to checking the 1990-93 Cabriolet Airbag OBD system, insert program card No. USA/3 or USA/3A as follows:

- Disconnect power (B+) from VAG 1551 ST.

- Remove screw and cover from top of VAG 1551 ST.

- Remove existing program card and install replacement as shown in Fig 3 .

- Re-install cover and screw.
