Sending Unit

If the gauge reads high when the engine is cold and the ignition is switched on, disconnect the temperature sending unit wire from the sending unit. If the needle drops to a lower reading, the sending unit is faulty. If the needle does not drop, the wire or the gauge is shorted to ground.
