SUBJECT: SERVICE ACTION CAMPAIGN PE
Dear Volkswagen Owner:
This letter is sent to you because we would like to correct a problem in the emission control system of certain 1988 Volkswagen vehicles. Our records show that your vehicle is one of the vehicles affected.
Problem Description Your vehicle is equipped with a dashboard oxygen sensor(OXS)
service reminder light designed to illuminate at 90,000 miles. At this mileage, the oxygen sensor is required to be replaced as specified in VWoA's service manual.
During assembly, your vehicle was inadvertently equipped with a reminder light system which will cause the reminder light to illuminate at 60,000 miles although no oxygen sensor replacement is required at this time.
Remedy Your dealer will disconnect the reminder light system which will
deactivate this function permanently. To ensure that the oxygen sensor is replaced at 90,000 miles, Volkswagen of America, Inc., agrees to perform the replacement at that mileage free of charge to you.
The modification work will take less than one-half hour and, of course, will also be free of charge to you.
Your Action Please contact the Service Department of your authorized
Volkswagen dealer for an appointment to have the OXS light disconnected.
We regret any inconvenience this work may cause you; however, we are confident that you would want to have your vehicle corrected as soon as possible.
