MODEL(S): Golf & Jetta
DATE OF ISSUE: November 1997
ISSUE & TIP
On 1985-91 Volkswagen Golf and Jetta models I the hose normally attaches. equipped with A/C, a burned out fuse in the blower motor resistor pack may cause the blower motor to operate on high speed only. It is possible to replace the resistor pack fuse, without replacing the resistor pack, using the following method:
- Remove the resistor pack.
- Cut the fuse out of the unit (it's a silver, torpedo shaped fuse that is about 112-inch long).
- Solder an in-line fuse holder into the area where the solid state fuse had previously been located.
- Install a 25 amp fuse in the fuse holder, then re-install the resistor pack.
- As a final check, be sure to do an amp-draw test on the blower motor circuit. There may have been a good reason why the resistor pack fuse blew in the first place.
