Engine Oiling System

Gear-type oil pump at front of engine is driven by camshaft. Oil flows under full pressure from pump to filter to main bearing journals through oil galleys in crankcase casting. Crankshaft is cross-drilled to provide oil to connecting rod journals. Oil filter is connected to an oil cooler.

Oil galleys bring full pressure to camshaft journals and hydraulic valve lifters. Oil flows through hollow push rods to lubricate rocker arm assembly. Splash oil lubricates valve stems. Excess oil returns to crankcase through push rod tubes. Cylinder walls and piston pins are splash lubricated.
