The TCI-H ignition system with a knock sensor differs from the basic TCI-H system by the addition of the knock sensor and knock sensor control unit. With this system, the distributor has no centrifugal or vacuum advance mechanisms. All adjustments to the ignition timing are handled electronically. The knock sensor system detects signs of pre-ignition or detonation (before they become audible) and adjusts the timing electronically to eliminate it. The knock sensor system also makes the timing adjustments for higher engine speeds.
