Starter Solenoid: Service and Repair

A defective starter solenoid may be replaced separately. To remove the starter solenoid, remove the starter motor as described in "Starter Motor Removal and Installation".




1. Remove nut from the field winding connection strap, and remove the strap from the solenoid.

2. Remove the two screws that hold the solenoid to the starter, lift the solenoid plunger's pull rod off the engaging fork, and remove the solenoid.

3. Install in reverse of removal.
