TECHNICAL INFORMATION TIP
Reference Number(s): VLK0039AP, Date of Issue:
NO START - CIS-E FUEL SYSTEM - INTAKE GROUND WIRE
YEAR(S): 1984-87
MANUFACTURER: Volkswagon
MODEL(S): Jetta with CIS-E Fuel System
ISSUE & TIP
A broken ground wire may cause a no-start condition on 1984-87 Volkswagen Jettas equipped with CIS-E fuel systems. Check the ground wire connection on the driver's side of the intake manifold. The wire is too short and may pull out of the crimp connector, leaving only the insulation attached to the connector.
A broken or poor connection at the ground wire will cause low or no fuel pressure. Run a temporary ground from the pressure differential to the body. If the car starts or fuel pressure increases, suspect a broken ground wire.
