Removal & Installation - A/T: Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect accelerator linkage rod. Disconnect speedometer cable then remove upper engine-to-transaxle bolts.
- Support engine from above. Disconnect automatic transaxle cooler lines. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold, exhaust pipe bracket at transaxle and unbolt exhaust pipe from catalytic converter.
- Remove axle shaft guard plate, then disconnect axle shaft from transaxle flanges. Wire axle shaft back out-of-way. Remove starter. Remove 3 bolts securing torque converter-to-drive plate.
- On 089 trasnaxle, mark left ball joint position on control arm. Remove ball joint-to-control arm bolts. On all models, remove sub-frame rear mounting bolts and loosen front (DO NOT remove).
- Disconnect linkage rod from transaxle. Remove selector cable holder and circlip, then disconnect cable and "O" ring.
- Place trasnaxle jack under trasnaxle and raise slightly. remove accelerator cable holder, then disconnect accelerator cable. Remove lower engine-to-trasnaxle bolts. Remove trasnaxle rubber mount bolts. Separate transaxle from engine. Lower transaxle out of vehicle.
CAUTION:
Secure torque converter to trasnaxle to prevent converter from falling out when removing transaxle.
