Fuel Pump & Relay
Roller-cell fuel pump assembly, with damper at suction end, is found in several locations in vehicle depending upon manufacturer. Fuel pump relay activates fuel pump during starting and with engine running. It also switches off fuel pump in absence of TD signal from ignition control unit and provides voltage supply for O2 sensor heating.
On Quantum models, fuel pump is located in fuel tank underneath sending unit. On Quantum models, gravity vent valve is incorporated into sending unit.
On Cabriolet, Golf, Jetta and Scirocco models, 2 fuel pumps are used. Transfer pump and sending unit assembly, which is a matched set, is located in gas tank. Main fuel pump is inside accumulator and is located underneath vehicle. Fuel pump check valve is located on accumulator in fitting for fuel line from transfer pump.
