GAINING CLEARANCE TO REMOVE HEADER PIPE
YEAR(S): 1985-89
MANUFACTURER: Volkswagon
MODEL(S): Golf & Jetta
DATE OF ISSUE: June 1998
ISSUE & TIP
A good way to gain clearance needed for removing the header pipe on 1985 and later VW Golf and Jetta, without removing the heat shield, is to loosen the front subframe bolts slightly and remove the rear subframe bolts. This saves lots of time by allowing the subfame to drop enough to remove the header pipe with the heat shield still attached.
