ENGINE CUTS OUT, WILL NOT RESTART - HIGH OIL PRESSURE
YEAR(S): 1985
MANUFACTURER: Volkswagon
MODEL(S): Golf
ISSUE & TIP
Higher than normal oil pressure may cause some 1985 Volkswagen Golf models to start normally, then die and refuse to restart. If you are repairing a Golf with this problem, listen to the sound of the engine while cranking. If the engine spins over faster than normal and sounds like it has no compression, high oil pressure could be to blame.
The high oil pressure causes the hydraulic valve lifters to pump up and may keeps the valves from closing completely. This causes low cranking vacuum, so the fuel system sensor plate doesn't move, and the injectors get no fuel.
