ISSUE & TIP

When replacing the release bearing on a Volkswagen Rabbit, Golf, or Jetta transmission, it is not necessary to remove the green cap. To replace the bearing:

Remove the six 8 mm bolts holding the housing that the green cap is pressed into.
Remove the housing. In most cases the housing gasket can be reused.
Coat the gasket with Hylomar.
Change the release bearing and reassemble.
