Final Assembly: 4-Speed

Install speedometer drive gear assembly, being careful to mesh drive gear with teeth on drive pinion shaft. Apply grease to clutch push rod and insert into mainshaft. Install release bearing and sleeve into rear end of shift housing.
Position clutch release lever and return spring in rear of shift housing, then install clutch operating lever through release lever and spring. See Fig 1 .

NOTE: Bent ends of spring must contact housing, and center part of spring hooks over release lever. Install 2 snap rings to secure assembly.
Apply grease to selector shaft and install into shift housing, engaging shift forks. Install 2 springs, spring seat and cover into case. Install selector shaft locking bolt into case and tighten. To adjust interlock plunger, loosen lock nut and turn adjusting sleeve in until lock ring lifts off sleeve. See Fig 2 .

Back off adjusting sleeve until lock ring just touches sleeve and tighten lock nut. Turn selector shaft slightly and check that lock ring lifts as soon as shaft is turned.
NOTE: Transmission must be in neutral with linkage disconnected when adjusting selector shaft.
Install rear cover with a NEW gasket onto shift housing. If removed, install a NEW seal into selector shaft bore (shift lever end).
Install NEW drive flange oil seals into housing, position drive flange onto shafts and retain with washers and snap rings. Install NEW plastic caps into flanges. If removed, install backup light switch, drain and fill plugs into case.
