Component Disassembly & Reassembly: MAINSHAFT: Reassembly

  1. Position shifting keys in slots of synchronizer hub, then install hub into synchronizer sleeve, after aligning reference marks. Install key springs into assembly, making sure springs are positioned 120 degrees offset of one another and that angled ends of springs engage hollowed-out portions of shifting keys. On 5th gear, install synchro key retainer plate.
  2. Install 3rd gear needle bearing on shaft. Assemble 3rd gear, 3rd gear synchro ring and synchro assembly, ensuring notches in synchro ring engage 3 keys in synchro assembly and that splines in synchro hub face 3rd gear. Press mainshaft into assembled synchro assembly, 3rd gear and synchro ring. Install snap ring, 4th gear synchro ring, needle bearing and 4th gear. On 5-speed transmission, press bearing on mainshaft with press.
