Component Disassembly & Reassembly: MAINSHAFT: Inspection
- Check all shaft surfaces, splines, and gear teeth for wear, chipping, scoring, or other damage. Check clutch push rod bushing in mainshaft for wear or damage, and if replacement is necessary, drive out push rod bushing using a 3/8" (10 mm) rod inserted through rear of shaft.
- Position a NEW bushing and oil seal on front of mainshaft, and press into shaft until flush. Assemble synchro rings on gears and check ring-to-gear clearance. Clearance for NEW parts should be .044-.069" (1.12-1.75 mm) for 3rd gear, .051-.075" (1.3-1.9 mm) for 4th gear. Wear limit for used parts is .020" (.5 mm).
NOTE:
Replacement of any gear necessitates replacement of meshing gear, as gears are available as matched pairs only.
