A/T - Overhaul: Identification

Transmission type may be identified by a group of numbers cast into top of case, behind the center case rib, near the ATF dipstick. One of the numbers is "010". This denotes the VW "two planetary" type transmission. Transmission model may be identified by a group of figures stamped into the top of the converter housing near the governor.

Figures consist of a model code (EQ) and a build date code. Transmission used in diesel engined Jetta and Rabbit models (and some gas models) includes an "E-mode" option. Models equipped with this transmission can be identified by an "E" position between "N" and "D" on the shift console.
