Description & Operation: Introduction
Transaxle assembly consists of 2 main units: Automatic transmission and final drive assembly. The transmission housing contains 2 planetary gear sets, 2 multiple-disc clutches, 1 brake band and servo, 1 multiple-disc brake, a one-way clutch and a hydraulic control system. The final drive housing contains torque converter, governor for transmission, three-gear type ring and pinion assembly and differential unit.
Transmissions with E-mode operation are designed to improve fuel economy. With selector lever in "E" position, transmission is disengaged from differential whenever accelerator pedal is released. In any other selector lever position, transmission operates the same as the conventional model. See Figure .
