Valve Body Assembly: Disassembly
- With ATF drained and oil pan and gasket detached, remove valve body assembly from transmission. Remove oil strainer-to-valve body mount screws. Remove strainer cover, strainer and gasket. See Fig 1 .
- Remove transfer plate-to-main valve body screws (23 with E-mode, 19 all others). Note position of 4 galvanized mount screws for E-mode valve body, for reassembly reference.
- Inspect valve body for proper identification by checking I.D. number stamped on boss of valve body. Lift off transfer and separator plates from main body, as an assembly.
- Check transfer plate and separation plate identification. Ensure only identical components are used for replacement. Note locations and sizes, then remove check balls and springs from main valve body. See Fig 2 .
- Remove rear end plate. Withdraw valves, springs and adjusting screws. Remove remaining end plates one at a time and withdraw all valves, plugs, springs and adjusting screws. Tag all components, or arrange in relationship to valve body, to ensure correct reassembly.
- If accumulator piston and spring require inspection, remove 3 galvanized screws from accumulator cover plate. Remove cover plate, spring and piston. Inspect accumulator piston and note if sealing ring is separate or permanent type.
NOTE:
DO NOT
alter settings of adjusting screws or interchange locations. Adjustments may only be set on a test stand.
