Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Adjustments




1. Start engine and allow it to idle a few minutes, then touch EGR inlet pipe at base of valve, pipe should not be warm.
2. Remove EGR control rod, then with engine running at idle, hold EGR valve in full throttle position. Touch EGR inlet pipe at base of valve. Pipe should not be warm.
3. If inlet pipe is warm in either step, adjust EGR linkage.
4. To adjust EGR linkage, thoroughly warm up engine and set idle speed to specifications.
5. Shorten control rod by loosening locknuts, then turn adjusting nut to shorten the adjustment until the engine speed drops off. Turn adjustment nut in opposite direction 11/16 turn for vehicles with manual transmission, or 1 turn for vehicles with automatic transmission.
6. Tighten locknuts without disturbing adjustment.
