Valve Springs: Installation

  1. Before installation, check springs on spring tester and inspect for cracks or distortion. Lower edge of valve spring retainer should be chamfered to prevent valve stem scoring.
  2. If necessary, grind a chamfer using stone or other tool. To install, reverse removal procedure. When installing the springs, make sure closely spaced coils of outer springs are against spring seats.
