  1. Place column in vehicle. Install steering gear on side member and tighten mounting bolts. Install pitman arm, aligning notch on arm with notch in gear shaft. Attach drag link to pitman arm. Set front wheels in straight ahead position, install steering column on worm spindle, then install and tighten flange bolt.
  2. Install steering wheel and ensure that a 0.08 - 0.12" (2-3 mm) gap exists between steering wheel nut and turn signal switch. Install cover plate for column.
    NOTE: When installing bracket and support, plastic layers of washers must face each other. Collapsible column bracket (1970 & later models) cannot be installed in models without collapsible bracket (1969 and before).
