Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Toyota Sequoia. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Laser Cruise / Data List.
    5. Check the Data List for proper functioning of the cruise control main switch.

      ECM (Laser Cruise) 

      ECM RANGE REFERENCE

      OK: When the cruise control main switch is operated, the display changes as shown above.

    B: Go to step 2 

    C: REPLACE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH  (See REMOVAL  )

    A: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  )

  2. INSPECT CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH 
    1. Remove the cruise control main switch (See REMOVAL  ).

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      A-1 (ECC) - A-2(R/N)
      A-1 (ECC) - A-3 (CCS)
      Neutral 10 kΩ or higher
      A-1 (ECC) - A-3 (CCS) + (ACCEL)/RES (RESUME) 235 to 245 Ω
      A-1 (ECC) - A-3 (CCS) - (COAST)/SET 620 to 640 Ω
      A-1 (ECC) - A-3 (CCS) CANCEL 1510 to 1570 Ω
      A-1 (ECC) - A-3 (CCS) Main switch on Below 1 Ω
      A-1 (ECC) - A-2 (R/N) Main switch on and MODE switch on Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPLACE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH  (See REMOVAL  )

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. INSPECT HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH - SPIRAL CABLE) 
    1. Disconnect the z11 connector from the spiral cable.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A-1-Z11-4 Always Below 1 Ω
      A-2-Z11-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      A-3-Z11-3 Always Below 1 Ω

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  4. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE 
    NOTE: The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may prevent the airbag from deploying. Be sure to read the page shown in the brackets.

    HINT:

    1. Remove the spiral cable.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Condition Spiral Cable Position Specified Condition
      Z11-1 (R/N) - H54-7(R/N) Center Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the left
      2.5 rotations to the right
      z11-3(CCS) - H54-1 (CCS) Center Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the left
      2.5 rotations to the right
      z11-4(ECC) - H54-2 (ECC) Center Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the left
      2.5 rotations to the right

      HINT:

      The spiral cable makes a maximum of approximately 5 rotations.

    3. Reinstall the spiral cable.

    NG: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the A27 connector from the ECM.
    2. Disconnect the H54 connector from the spiral cable.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      H54-1 (CCS) - A27-45 (CCS) Always Below 1 Ω
      H54-7 (R/N) - A27-37 (CCHG) Always Below 1 Ω
      H54-1 (CCS) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      H54-7 (R/N) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      H54-2 (ECC) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the ECM and spiral cable connector.

      Result

      OK (for 2UZ-FE) B
      OK (for 3UR-FE) C

    B: REPLACE ECM  (See REMOVAL )

    C: REPLACE ECM  (See REMOVAL )
