Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Toyota Camry Solara. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E8-3 (E1) - Body ground Below 1 Ω
    3. Reconnect the ECM connector.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT EFI RELAY VOLTAGE 
    1. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room junction block.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      VOLTAGE CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      5 (EFI relay) - Body ground 9 to 14 V
    4. Reinstall the EFI relay.

    OK: Go to step  4

    NG: Go to next step 

  3. INSPECT FUSE (EFI FUSE) 
    1. Inspect the EFI fuse.
      1. Remove the EFI fuse from the engine room junction block.
      2. Measure the EFI fuse resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

        Standard resistance 

        RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

        Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
        EFI fuse Always Below 1 Ω
      3. Reinstall the EFI fuse.

    NG: REPLACE FUSE (EFI FUSE) 

    OK: CHECK AND REPAIR HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - EFI RELAY) 

  4. INSPECT EFI RELAY (See  INSPECTION PROCEDURE   ) 

    NG: REPLACE EFI RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EFI RELAY - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room junction block.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E4-1 (+B) - 3 (EFI relay) Below 1 Ω
      E4-2 (+B2) - 3 (EFI relay) Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short) 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E4-1 (+B) or 3 (EFI relay) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      E4-2 (+B2) or 3 (EFI relay) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    5. Reinstall the EFI relay.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. INSPECT ECM (IGSW VOLTAGE) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connectors.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      VOLTAGE CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E4-9 (IGSW) - E8-3 (E1) 9 to 14 V
    4. Reconnect the ECM connectors.

    OK: Go to step  9

    NG: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT FUSE (IG2 FUSE) 
    1. Remove the IG2 fuse from the engine room junction block.

    2. Measure the fuse resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Connector Condition Specified Condition
      IG2 fuse Always Below 1 Ω
    3. Reinstall the fuse.

    NG: REPLACE FUSE (IG2 FUSE) 

  8. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Connection Ignition Switch Position Specified Condition
      All Terminals LOCK 10 kΩ or higher
      2-3 ACC Below 1 Ω
      2 - 3 - 4, 6 - 7 ON
      1 - 2 - 4, 6 - 7 - 8 START
    3. Reconnect the ignition switch connector.

    NG: REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

    OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EFI RELAY - ECM, EFI RELAY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    2. Remove the EFI relay from the engine room junction block.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E4-8 (MREL) -1 (EFI relay) Below 1 Ω
      2 (EFI relay) - Body ground Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short) 

      RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      E4-8 (MREL) or 1 (EFI relay) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    5. Reinstall the EFI relay.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE ECM
