Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Toyota Corolla and 2005 Toyota Corolla. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Check the ignition switch, as shown in the illustration and table.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Tester Condition Switch Position Specified Condition
    - LOCK -
    1 - 3 ACC Below 1 Ω
    1 - 2 - 3 ON Below 1 Ω
    5 - 6 ON Below 1 Ω
    1 - 2 START Below 1 Ω
    4 - 5 - 6 START Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. CHECK FUSE (ECU-B) 
    1. Remove the fuse from the instrument panel J/B.
    2. Check the resistance of the fuse.

      Standard: Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPLACE FUSE 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  3. CHECK RELAY (Marking: IG1) 
    1. Remove the relay from the instrument panel J/B.
    2. Inspect the relay resistance, as shown in the illustration and table.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Tester Condition Condition Specified Condition
    1 - 2 Always Below 1 Ω
    3 - 5 Apply B+ between terminals 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPLACE RELAY 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  4. CHECK TVIP ECU 
    1. Disconnect the TVIP ECU connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    3. Measure the voltage between the terminal of the ECU connector and the body ground, as shown in the illustration and table.

    Standard: 

    TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Tester Condition Specified Condition
    IG (T3-10) - Body ground 10 to 14 V

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

    CHECK AND REPLACE TVIP ECU (See  ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT INSPECTION PROCEDURE  )
