  3. FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION
    1. Headlight Leveling Control ECU

      HINT:

The Headlight Leveling Control ECU performs the fail-safe when detecting following troubles. At this it lights the warning Indicator light on the combination meter.

      HEADLIGHT LEVELING CONTROL ECU

      Trouble Area System
      Headlight Leveling Actuator
      • Open circuit
      • Short circuit
Vehicle Speed Sensor One vehicle speed signal is 0 km/h and the other is 10 km/h (8 MPH) or more.
      Generator
      • Open circuit
      • Short circuit
Height Control Sensor Signal lever error
Pitch Angle Calculation Error Signal lever error

Recovery condition (The warning light goes off.)

      • Ignition switch OFF
      • Ignition switch OFF or signal lever error cancellation
    2. Light Control ECU
      LIGHT CONTROL ECU

When Input Error Is Inspected. When input voltage is not within the range of operation voltage (9 to 16 V), lighting of the headlight stops. As soon as the voltage comes within the range, it lights up again.
However if the input voltage becomes low after lighting up, sufficient voltage is maintained until light of bulb completely goes off.
When Output Error Is Inspected (Open Or Short).
      When Light Flushing Is Inspected.
When an error occurs in the output voltage (open or short) or flushing symptom occurs on the bulb, lighting of the headlight stops, the condition is maintained until power is turned ON again (headlight dimmer switch OFF --> ON).
In this case, it can not be judged whether lighting malfunction is caused by an output error or other reasons (fuse blown out, etc.). Check that there is no error in fuse and wiring (including power source) and replace the bulb in the first place, when the error still appears, replace the light control ECU.
  4. USING LEXUS HAND-HELD TESTER
    1. Hook up the LEXUS hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Monitor the ECU data by following the prompts on the tester screen.

    HINT:

LEXUS hand-held tester has a "Snapshot" function which records the monitored data.

Please refer to the LEXUS hand-held tester operator's manual for further details.

  5. DTC CLEAR
    1. The DTCs and freeze frame data will be erased by either action.

Opening the OBD II scan tool (complying with SAE J1978) or LEXUS hand-held tester to erase the codes. See the OBD II scan tool's instruction book for operating instructions.
