Brakes Construction

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Suzuki SX4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

When the foot brake pedal is depressed, hydraulic pressure is developed in the master cylinder to actuate pistons (two in front disc brake, two in rear disc brake or four in rear drum brake).

The master cylinder is a tandem master cylinder. Brake pipes are connected to the master cylinder and they make two independent circuits. One connects front left and rear right brakes (primary side) and the other connects front right and rear left brakes (secondary side).

In this brake system, the front brake is disc brake type and the rear brake is disc brake type or drum brake type (leading/trailing shoes).

The parking brake system is mechanical. It applies brake force to only rear wheels by means of the cable and mechanical linkage system. The same brake pads (rear disc brake model) or shoes (rear drum brake model) are used for both parking and foot brakes.
