EVAP Canister Vent valve On-Vehicle Inspection

WARNING: If vacuum is applied using your mouth, there is a risk of inhaling harmful fuel vapor. Be sure to use a hand vacuum pump to apply vacuum.
NOTE: If too high a vacuum is applied, the EVAP canister purge valve may be damaged. Do not exceed a vacuum of -67 kPa (-0.68 kgf/cm2, -9.72 psi, -0.67 bar).
  1. With ignition mode of keyless push start system in "OFF", connect special tool between ECM and ECM connectors. For connecting procedure, refer to Step 1) and 2) of "Voltage Check" under INSPECTION OF ECM AND ITS CIRCUITS .
  2. Check coil resistance of EVAP canister vent valve between "E01-1" terminal and "E01-59" terminal of ECM connector.

Coil resistance of EVAP canister vent valve

    25 - 30 Ω at 20 °C (68 °F)

If resistance is as specified, proceed next step. If not, check wire harness and connections.

If check results of wire harness and connections are OK, replace EVAP leak check module and EVAP canister as assembly.

  3. Disconnect filler pipe, purge pipe and suction pipe from EVAP leak check module and EVAP canister, see EVAP CANISTER / EVAP LEAK CHECK MODULE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  4. Blow compressed air (1) (2.0 kPa (0.02 kgf/cm2 , 0.29 psi, 0.02 bar)) into air port (2). Air should come out of filler port (3) so purge port (4).

If air does not come out, replace EVAP leak check module and EVAP canister as assembly.

  5. Close EVAP canister vent valve in EVAP leak check module as follows. If you have SUZUKI scan tool, perform step a). If not, perform step  b).
    1. Method using SUZUKI scan tool:
      1. With ignition mode of keyless push start system in "OFF", connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC (1).
      2. Push engine switch to change ignition mode of keyless push start system to "ON".
      3. Select "Active Test" mode on SUZUKI scan tool.
      4. Close EVAP canister vent valve in EVAP leak check module by using SUZUKI scan tool.

    2. b) Method without using SUZUKI scan tool:
      1. With ignition mode of keyless push start system in "OFF", connect special tool between ECM and ECM connectors. For connecting procedure, refer to Step 1) and 2) of "Voltage Check" under INSPECTION OF ECM AND ITS CIRCUITS .
      2. Push engine switch to change ignition mode of keyless push start system to "ON".
      3. Use service wire to ground "E01-59" terminal of ECM connector (valve: close).

  6. Blow compressed air (1) (2.0 kPa (0.02 kgf/cm2 , 0.29 psi, 0.02 bar)) into air port (2). Air should not come out filler port (3) and purge port (4).

If check results are not as described above, check wire harness and connections.

If check results of wire harness and connections are OK, replace EVAP leak check module and EVAP canister as assembly.
