EVAP Canister Purge System Inspection

WARNING: If vacuum is applied using your mouth, there is a risk of inhaling harmful fuel vapor. Be sure to use a hand vacuum pump to apply vacuum.

CAUTION: Do not apply vacuum of more than -67 kPa (-0.68 kgf/cm² , -9.72 psi, -0.67 bar); otherwise EVAP canister purge valve could be damaged.

Prepare to operate EVAP canister purge valve as follows.
1. Method using SUZUKI scan tool:
  1. Confirm that ignition mode of keyless push start system is "OFF".
  2. Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC (1).

  3. Push engine switch to change ignition mode of keyless push start system to "ON".
  4. Select "Active Test" mode on SUZUKI scan tool.
    NOTE:
    EVAP canister purge valve is operated using scan tool as follows.
    
    To turn OFF EVAP canister purge valve: 0%
    
    To turn ON EVAP canister purge valve: 100%
2. Method using service wire:
  NOTE: Before performing this check, be sure to read "PRECAUTIONS FOR ECM CIRCUIT INSPECTION" under PRECAUTIONS FOR ENGINE .
  1. Confirm that ignition mode of keyless push start system is "OFF".
  2. Connect special tool (ECM check harness) between ECM and ECM connector. For connecting procedures, refer to step 1) to 2) of "Voltage Check" under INSPECTION OF ECM AND ITS CIRCUITS .
    NOTE:
    Operate EVAP canister purge valve using service wire as follows.
    
    To turn ON EVAP canister purge valve: Connect service wire to "C01-7" terminal and ground [b]
    
    To turn OFF EVAP canister purge valve: Disconnect service wire from "C01-7" terminal and ground [a]

Disconnect vacuum hose (2) from intake manifold and purge hose from EVAP canister purge valve (1).
Install special tool to vacuum hose.

Check EVAP canister purge valve operation as follows.
1. Vacuum of -60 kPa (-0.6 kgf/cm² , -8.7 psi, -0.6 bar) can be applied when EVAP canister purge valve is turned OFF [A].
2. No vacuum can be applied when EVAP canister purge valve is turned ON [B].

If check results are not OK, check the following points:
- Wire harness and connections
- EVAP canister purge valve: EVAP CANISTER PURGE VALVE INSPECTION . .
- Vacuum hoses
