Tie-Rod End Removal and Installation: Installation

Reference: TIE-ROD BALL JOINT INSPECTION 

  1. Install tie-rod end lock nut (2) and tie-rod end (3) to position of mark (1) on steering tie-rod (4) thread portion.
    NOTE: Tighten tie-rod end lock nut to specified torque after toe-in check.

  2. Install tie-rod end to steering knuckle and tighten tie-rod end nut (1) to specified torque.

    Tightening torque 

    Tie-rod end nut (a): 55 N.m (5.6 kg-m, 40.5 lbf-ft) 

  3. Install new cotter pin (2).
    NOTE:
    • Match hole of cotter pin by tightening (rotation angle 60° max) after tightening tie-rod end nut to specified torque.
    • Insert cotter pin with long arm (3) facing downward and bend cotter pin as shown in figure.

  4. Install wheel, see WHEEL (WITH TIRE) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. Inspect toe, see FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT .
  6. Tighten tie-rod end lock nut to specified torque after confirming toe is specified value.

    Tightening torque 

    Tie-rod end lock nut: 55 N.m (5.6 kg-m, 40.5 lbf-ft)
