Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) System

The Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) system is controlled by the keyless start control module. The TPM system monitors the tire pressure in all 4 road tires but not the spare tire. The TPMS consist of a low tire pressure warning light, 4 wheel mounted tire pressure sensors, the keyless entry/TPMS receiver and the keyless start control module (KSCM).

The tire pressure sensors measure the tire pressure in each tire and transmit the data as a radio frequency (RF) signal to the TPMS receiver. When the vehicle speed is less than 3 mph (5 km/h), the tire pressure sensors transmit at 13 hour intervals to preserve battery life. When the vehicle speed is 25 mph (40 km/h) or more, the tire pressure sensor transmit in 64 second intervals. The TPMS receiver converts the RF signal from the tire pressure sensor to digital data and transfers it to the KSCM. The KSCM compares the recently measure tire pressure to the specified tire pressures. If the tire pressure is lower than 29.7 psi (205 kPa), the KSCM instructs the low tire pressure warning light to illuminate. The KSCM can also detect any malfunctions within the TPM system. When a malfunction is detected, the KSCM instructs the low tire pressure warning light to flash for 75 seconds, then remain illuminated.

NOTE: Only up to 4 ID codes of the tire pressure sensor can be registered in TPM system controller. The TPM system controller is not, by default, programmed to recognize the ID code of the tire pressure sensor in the spare tire. The ID must be registered into the system before it will become active.

Under the following conditions, the system may not function properly:
