Manual Transaxle Unit Dismounting and Remounting: Dismounting

  1. Remove battery, battery tray with ECM and battery bracket, see BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Remove clutch fluid pipe, see CLUTCH FLUID PIPE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Disconnect back up light switch connector and release wiring harness clamps.
  4. Disconnect gear shift and gear select control cables (1) from transaxle, see GEAR SHIFT CONTROL LEVER AND CABLE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  5. Remove ground cable from transaxle.
  6. Remove engine undercovers.
  7. Drain transaxle oil. see MANUAL TRANSAXLE OIL CHANGE 
  8. Remove exhaust pipe, see EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPONENTS .
  9. Remove starting motor, see STARTING MOTOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  10. Remove drive shaft assembly and drive intermediate shaft, see FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION / DRIVE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  11. Remove front bumper, see FRONT BUMPER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  12. Open engine hood as wide as possible and hold it by using rope.
  13. Hang up engine with chain (1) so that engine does not tilt.

  14. Remove front suspension frame, see FRONT SUSPENSION FRAME COMPONENTS .
  15. Support transaxle with transmission jack.
  16. Remove transaxle-to-engine bolts (1) of upper side.

  17. Remove engine left mounting (1) and engine left mounting bracket (2).

  18. Remove engine front mounting and engine front mounting bracket, see ENGINE MOUNTINGS COMPONENTS .
  19. Remove engine rear mounting, engine rear mounting bracket No. 1 and engine rear mounting bracket No. 2, see ENGINE MOUNTINGS COMPONENTS .
  20. Remove clutch housing lower plate, see OIL PAN AND OIL PUMP STRAINER COMPONENTS .
  21. Remove transaxle-to-engine bolts (1) and nut (2) of lower side, and then lower transaxle.
