Disabling Air Bag System: Notes

WARNING: Disabling of air bag system must be started at least 90 seconds after pressing engine switch to change ignition mode to "LOCK", and disconnecting negative (-) cable at battery. Otherwise, system may be activated by reserve energy in SDM.

When servicing air bag system, related parts and working around air bag (inflator) module, disable air bag (inflator) modules as follows.

DISABLING PROCEDURE CHART

Servicing item Disabling procedure
  • When disconnecting or connecting air bag system connectors.
  • When removing or installing air bag system components.
Disconnect negative (-) battery cable.
  • When servicing air bag system, related parts or working around air bag (inflator) module. (If ignition mode does not change to ON)
  • When servicing air bag system, related parts or working around air bag (inflator) module. (If ignition mode does not change to ON)
Remove "A/B" fuse.
  • When performing electric welding.
  • When there is a possibility that air bag system or related parts would be heated up with 93°C (200°F) and more by electric welding or paint baking process.
Disconnect negative (-) battery cable and remove all air bag (inflator) modules.
