Common Causes of Failure
The following are most common causes of battery failures.
- Accessories are left on overnight or for an extended period without the generator operating.
- Driving at slow speed for short periods.
- Electrical load exceeding generator output particularly due to addition of aftermarket equipment.
- Defects in charging system. See Generator Symptom Diagnosis
- Battery abuse, including failure to keep battery cable terminals clean and too tight or too loose battery hold down clamp.
- Mechanical problems in electrical system such as shorted or pinched wires.
- Deterioration of battery due to long-term use.
