CVT Assembly Dismounting and Remounting: Remounting

  1. Make sure that torque converter is installed correctly to transaxle. See Input Shaft Oil Seal Replacement 
  2. Attach transaxle to engine.
  3. Tighten bolts and nut to specified torque. See CVT Assembly Components 
  4. Tighten torque converter No. 1 and No. 2 bolt as follows:
    NOTE: Torque converter No. 1 bolt is used for accurate positioning.
    Tighten the torque converter No. 1 bolt first so that the bolt holes for torque converter and drive plate are positioned properly, and that the torque converter No. 2 bolt is tightened securely.
    One torque converter No. 1 bolt and five torque converter No. 2 bolts are required to secure the torque converter and drive plate.
    1. Align bolt hole of drive plate with bolt hole of torque converter by turning crankshaft.
    2. Tighten torque converter No. 1 bolt by hand through drive plate cover opening.
    3. Turn crankshaft by 60° by turning crankshaft pulley bolt using wrench.
    4. Tighten torque converter No. 2 bolt by hand through drive plate cover opening.
    5. Repeat Step  c) through  d) for 4 times.
    6. Insert flat-head rod or the like (2) to hole (3) of transaxle case as shown in figure.
    7. Lock drive plate (1), engage a flat-head rod or the like (2) with gear of drive plate as shown in figure.
    8. Tighten torque converter No. 1 or No. 2 bolt to specified torque.

      Tightening torque 

      Torque converter No. 1 and No. 2 bolt (a): 23 N.m (2.3 kg-m, 17.0 lbf-ft) 

    9. Turn crankshaft by 60° by turning crankshaft pulley bolt using wrench.
    10. Repeat Step  f) through  h) for 5 times.

  5. Install drive plate cover. See OIL PAN AND OIL PUMP STRAINER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  6. Install starter motor. See STARTING MOTOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  7. For 2WD model, install center shaft. FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
    CAUTION: Oil leaks will occur if the oil seal lip is damaged. Be careful not to scratch the oil seal lip when inserting the center shaft into the differential gear.
  8. For 2WD model, install engine rear mounting No. 1 bracket and engine rear mounting No. 2 bracket with stiffener. See ENGINE MOUNTINGS COMPONENTS
  9. For 4WD model, install transfer. See TRANSFER DISMOUNTING AND REMOUNTING
  10. Install front drive shaft. See FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  11. Remount engine with transaxle assembly to vehicle. Refer to ENGINE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION for its procedure.
  12. After replacing transaxle, perform the initialize learning value in TCM. See TCM Learning Control Initialization
