Rear Axle Removal and Installation (Rear Disc Brake Model): Installation
Reference: REAR AXLE AND COIL SPRING INSPECTION
- Install rubber edge covers (2) (if equipped) to rear axle (1) as shown in figure, if removed.
- Install brake pipes to rear axle, if removed.
- Place rear axle on floor jacks.
Then install rear axle and new rear axle bolts (1) and tighten bolts temporarily.
- Install coil springs referring to REAR COIL SPRING REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- For 4WD model, install rear differential, propeller shaft and rear drive shaft referring to REAR DIFFERENTIAL DISMOUNTING AND REMOUNTING .
- Install rear wheel hubs referring to Step 2) to 4)) of "Installation" under REAR WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (REAR DISC BRAKE MODEL) .
- Connect brake flexible hoses (1) to bracket on rear axle with E-rings (2) and tighten brake pipe flare nuts (3) to specified torque.
Tightening torque
Brake pipe flare nut (a): 16 N.m (1.6 kg-m, 11.5 lbf-ft)
- Install rear brake caliper, brake flexible hose and parking brake cable referring to REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install wheel speed sensor clamps (2) and tighten parking brake cable clamp nuts (1) to specified torque.
Tightening torque
Parking brake cable clamp nut (a): 26 N.m (2.6 kg-m, 19.0 lbf-ft)
- Install exhaust center pipe and muffler.
- Fill reservoir with brake fluid and bleed brake system. For bleeding operation referring to AIR BLEEDING OF BRAKE SYSTEM .
- Install wheel and tighten wheel nuts to specified torque referring to WHEEL (WITH TIRE) REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Adjust parking brake cable. For adjustment, refer to PARKING BRAKE INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT .
- Lower hoist and bounce vehicle up and down several times to stabilize suspension.
- Tighten shock absorber lower nuts and rear axle bolts to specified torque.NOTE: When tightening these nuts and bolts, be sure that vehicle is not on hoist and in unloaded condition.
Tightening torque
Rear shock absorber lower nut: 90 N.m (9.0 kg-m, 65.0 lbf-ft)
Rear axle bolt: 73 N.m (7.3 kg-m, 53.0 lbf-ft)
- Perform brake test (foot brake and parking brake).
- Check each installed part for fluid leakage.
