Disabling Air Bag System

NOTE: With "A/B" fuse removed and ignition switch ON, "AIR BAG" warning light will be ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate air bag system malfunction.
  1. Turn steering wheel so that vehicle's wheels (front tires) are pointing straight ahead.
  2. Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
  3. Turn ignition switch to "LOCK" position and remove key.
  4. Remove "A/B" fuse from fuse box.
  5. Remove driver side front pillar lower trim and disconnect yellow connector (1) for driver air bag as follows.
    1. Release locking of lock slider (2).
    2. After unlocked, disconnect connector.
  6. Remove passenger side front pillar lower trim and disconnect yellow connector (3) for passenger air bag as follows.
    1. Release locking of lock slider (2).
    2. After unlocked, disconnect connector.

  7. Disconnect yellow connector of side-air bag (inflator) module under front seat cushion (1).
    1. Release locking of lock slider (2).
    2. After unlocked, disconnect connector.

  8. Disconnect connector of side curtain-air bag (inflator) module as follows.

    For hatchback model: 

    1. Remove rear side-air bag. See Rear Side-Air Bag (Inflator) Module Removal and Installation .

    For sedan model: 

    1. Remove rear seat side back. See REAR SEAT REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    2. Unlock lock button (2) of black connector (1).
    3. With lock button unlocked, disconnect connector.

  9. Disconnect connector of curtain air bag (inflator) module as follows.

    For hatchback model: 

    1. Release locking of lock slider (2) of yellow connector (1).
    2. With unlocked, disconnect connector.

For sedan model: 

  1. Remove rear pillar inner trim.
  2. Unlock lock button (2) of black connector (1).
  3. With lock button unlocked, disconnect connector.
