CONDITION

Customer may report extended cranking time or hard-to-start condition.

CAUSE

Unique timing conditions may exist intermittently.

CORRECTION

DO NOT  replace the ECM. Reprogram (reflash) the ECM with updated software that is improved for easier starting. When programming the ECU in an attempt to correct an extended crank condition, always use the latest SEPS software and database versions.

REVISION

TS 10 10271R1 (Revised 2/17/15;) updates the Warranty Information table with 2012 and 2013 model information, and includes a hyperlink to the ECU Model List.

Warranty claims for ECM reprogramming for the condition listed above can be submitted for a period of 8 years or 100,000 miles from the time the vehicle was first put into service.

REQUIRED TOOLS

  1. PC or Laptop with the SEPS (Suzuki ECU Programming System) software installed and running with the latest SEPS database version (Go to Service Administration Bulletin SA-75R for the latest SEPS software and SEPS database.).
  2. J2534 pass-thru device
    • Suzuki SDS Tool Kit, P/N 09910-06520-B

    • Suzuki SDT Scan Tool, P/N 95171-00380

SERVICE ACTION

  1. Connect the pass-thru device to the USB port of your PC or Laptop.
  2. Plug the pass-thru device into the DLC (Data Link Connector) of the vehicle being reprogrammed.
  3. Turn the ignition switch ON, but do not  start the engine.
  4. Launch the SEPS software program on your PC by selecting it from your computer's Program Files; Suzuki ECU Programming Systems > Suzuki Passthrough Programming 

    Do not  use the Desk Top Icon to launch the software.

  5. Follow the prompts to select the desired system controller to be reprogramed and the pass-thru device being used. Once communication is established between the vehicle controller and the PC, confirm the proposed system update information matches the ECU Model List (go to ECU Model List  for the latest ECU and Calibration Data). If the data matches the update requirements, follow the prompts until the process is complete.
