Precautions
Precautions for Emergency Flat Tire Repair Kit (If Equipped)
- Should you swallow the sealant, get medical attention immediately.
- Keep the sealant out of reach of children.
- Select a place with good ventilation for handling the sealant.
- If the sealant contacts your eye or skin, wash the affected part thoroughly with water and receive medical attention immediately in the event of eye contact.
- Do not discard tire containing flat tire repair sealant as it is. Make sure that flat tire repair sealant is removed from tire.
- Dispose of flat tire repair sealant and waste cloth soiled with flat tire repair sealant as an industrial waste like waste oil.
- Reuse of the valve core and the tire repaired with the sealant can cause air to leak from the tire.
Be sure to replace the repaired tire and the valve core with new ones, referring to "Replacement of Flat Tire Repaired with Sealant".
- The hole of the tire pressure sensor installed in the tire which is repaired with the sealant can be clogged with the sealant. This will cause the sensor to malfunction.
Be sure to replace the tire pressure sensor with a new one whenever replacing a tire repaired with the repair sealant.
Precautions in Wheel and Tire Servicing
- Wheel repairs that use welding, heating, or peeling are not approved. All damaged wheels should be replaced.
- There are two types of vehicles, whether equipped with TPMS or not. Check which type of vehicle is being serviced, referring to "Identification of Vehicle with TPMS": first before servicing its tire or wheel. Failure to follow the specified procedure when servicing the tire or wheel of the TPMS equipped vehicle may cause damage to the tire pressure sensor.
TPMS
- As the wheel of the TPMS equipped vehicle has a tire pressure sensor, its differs in the shape from that of the vehicle without TPMS. When replacing the wheel of the TPMS equipped vehicle, be sure to use the genuine wheel specified by the manufacturer.
- When replacing the tire of the TPMS equipped vehicle, check to make sure that the tire size is as specified in the "Tire Placard". If the size of the installed tire is out of specification, the tire pressure sensor may be broken because of its contact of the bead of the tire.
- If repair sealant is used for a flat tire, the hole of the tire pressure sensor can be clogged with the sealant and the TPMS cannot operate normally.
Do not reuse the tire pressure sensor which has been installed on a tire repaired with sealant.
- For precautions to be taken when diagnosing troubles of the TPMS equipped vehicle, refer to .
Spare tire (For vehicle equipped with TPMS)
When a spare tire is used as a running wheel, ID codes of all tire pressure sensors installed to 4 tires must be reregistered in BCM. When the vehicle is driven without reregistration of the ID codes, BCM detects a faulty condition of the system and makes the low tire pressure warning light flash. For the registration procedure, refer to.
Studs
If a broken stud is found, replace it referring to or for Note and Replacement procedure.
Replacement of Flat Tire Repaired with Sealant
- Damage to health may result if you do not observe the precautions in "Precautions for Emergency Flat Tire Repair Kit (If Equipped)" when performing the procedure below.
Be sure to observe the precautions when handling the flat tire repaired with the sealant.
- Sealant may leak out when releasing air from tires, which can result in damage to health.
Do not inhale, swallow or touch the sealant.
- Remove wheel and tire repaired with sealant.
- Release air from the tire slowly by loosening valve core.
- Remove flat tire repaired with sealant from wheel. (Tire and/or Tire Pressure Sensor (If Equipped) Mounting and Dismounting)
- Wipe off repair sealant from flat tire repaired with sealant and wheel.
- For vehicle with TPMS, install new tire pressure sensor to wheel. (Tire and/or Tire Pressure Sensor (If Equipped) Mounting and Dismounting)
- Install new tire to wheel. (Tire and/or Tire Pressure Sensor (If Equipped) Mounting and Dismounting)
- Install wheel fitted with new tire to vehicle.
