Balancer Shaft Removal and Installation: Installation

Reference: BALANCER SHAFT, BALANCER BEARING INSPECTION 

  1. If removed, install shaft balancer bearings according to the following procedure.
    NOTE: The balancer shaft bearing No. 1 is different in shape from the balancer shaft bearing No. 2. If these bearings are installed in the wrong (reverse) positions, the oil pump system will have operational problems and/or the balancer shaft could seize up.
    Be sure to install the bearings in the specified positions.
    1. Fit tab (1) of each balancer shaft bearing to groove (2) of oil pump housing or balancer shaft cover.
    2. Press balancer shaft bearing end (3) until its outer surface comes in contact with oil pump housing or balancer shaft cover.
    3. Apply engine oil to inner surface (4) of balancer shaft bearing.

  2. Install balancer shafts No. 1 and No. 2 to oil pump housing according to the following procedure.
    1. Align match marks (1) on balancer gear No. 1 with match mark (2) on balancer gear No. 2 as shown in figure.

    2. Install balancer shafts No. 1 (1) and No. 2 (2) to oil pump housing (3) by sliding them in direction of arrow.
      NOTE: Fit end of balancer shaft No. 2 in hole in inner rotor opening (4).

  3. Install oil pump sprocket according to the following procedure.
    1. Insert special tool into aligning holes in balancer shafts No. 1 and No. 2 to prevent balancer shafts from rotating.

      Special Tool 

      (A): 09914-67810 

    2. Install oil pump sprocket (2) while holding by special tool in position.
      NOTE: The bolts may loosen during operation of the oil pump sprocket if you use any bolts other than the specified oil pump sprocket bolts (3).
      Use only the specified bolts.

      Tightening torque 

      Oil pump sprocket bolt (a): 45 N.m (4.6 kgf-m, 33.5 lbf-ft)

  4. Install balancer shaft cover to oil pump housing.

    Tightening torque 

    Balancer shaft cover bolt: 29 N.m (3.0 kgf-m, 21.5 lbf-ft) 

  5. Install oil pump assembly. Refer to Oil Pump Assembly Removal and Installation .
