DTC check for ESP®
- Connect scan tool to DLC with ignition switch turned OFF.
- Turn ignition switch ON and check DTC for ESP®.
Is DTC C1016 detected? |
Go to DTC C1016 diag. flow. |
Go to step 3. |

Check brake light relay drive circuit
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
- Remove brake light relay from relay box.
- Check for proper connection from connector to brake light relay.
- If OK, measure voltage between "GRN/ORN" wire terminal and vehicle ground with ignition switch turned ON.
Is it 10 - 14 V? |
Go to step 4. |
"GRN/ORN" wire circuit open. |

Check brake light relay power supply circuit
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
- Measure voltage between "GRN" wire terminal and vehicle ground.
Is it 10 - 14 V? |
Go to step 5. |
"GRN" wire circuit open. |

Check brake light relay power supply circuit
- Measure voltage between "GRN/YEL" wire terminal and vehicle ground, when brake light switch ON and brake light switch OFF.
Brake light switch ON: 10 - 14 V? Brake light switch OFF: 0 V? |
Step 6 |
Repair or replace "GRN/YEL" wire. |

Check brake light relay
- Check brake light relay. (Brake Light Relay Inspection) OFF
Is it good condition? |
Go to step 7. |
Replace brake light relay. |

Check brake light relay drive circuit
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
- Disconnect ESP® control module connector.
- Check brake light relay drive circuit is as follows.
- Wiring resistance of "BLK/ORN" wire between brake light relay and ESP® control module connector is less than 1 Ω.
- Insulation resistance of "BLK/ORN" wire is infinity between its terminal and other terminals at ESP® control module connector.
- Insulation resistance of "BLK/ORN" wire is infinity between its terminal and vehicle body ground.
Is it in good condition? |
Go to step 8. |
Repair or replace "BLK/ORN" wire. |

Check brake light relay power supply circuit
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position.
- Check brake light relay signal circuit is as follows.
- Wiring resistance of "BLK/ORN" wire between brake light relay and Spear control module connector is less than 1 Ω.
- Insulation resistance of "GRN/WHT" wire is infinity between its terminal and other terminals at ESP® control module connector.
- Insulation resistance of "GRN/WHT" wire is infinity between its terminal and vehicle body ground.
- Voltage of "GRN/WHT" wire between ESP® control module connector terminal and vehicle body ground is 12 V with ignition switch turned ON.
Is it n good condition? |
Substitute a known good ESP® control module and recheck. |
Repair or replace "GRN/WHT" wire. |
