Front Brake Disc and Pad Inspection

Front Brake Disc and Pad Inspection

Front Disc Brake Pad Removal and Installation

Brake Pad

Check pad lining for wear. When wear exceeds limit, replace with new one.

NOTE:

If the brake pad lining is polished with sandpaper, abrading particles will be embedded in the lining and will damage the brake disc.

Do not polish a rough pad lining with sandpaper. Replace the pad with a new one.

NOTE:

When pads are removed, visually inspect caliper for brake fluid leak. Correct leaky point, if any.

Front disc brake pad thickness (lining thickness)
"a"
Standard: 11.0 mm (0.43 in.)
Limit: 2.0 mm (0.08 in.)

Brake Disc

Before this inspection, brake pads must be removed.

Check disc surface for scratches in wearing parts. Scratches on disc surface noticed at the time of specified inspection or replacement are normal and disc is not defective unless they are serious.

But when there are deep scratches or scratches all over disc surface, replace it. When only one side is scratched, polish and correct that side.

Front brake disc thickness
"a"
Standard: 25 mm (0.984 in.)
Limit: 23 mm (0.905 in.)

Use wheel nuts (1) and suitable plain washers (2) to hold the disc securely against the hub, then mount a dial gauge (3) as shown in figure and measure the runout at 25 mm (0.98 in.) from the outer edge of the disc.

NOTE:

Check front wheel bearing for looseness before measurement.

Front brake disc deflection
Limit: 0.1 mm (0.004 in.)

Slide Pin Bolt / Cylinder Slide Pin

Check slide pin (bolt) for smooth movement as shown in figure.

If it is found faulty, correct or replace. Apply grease (included with new pin boot) to side pin (bolt) outer surface.

Dust Boot

Check boot for breakage, crack and damage. If defective, replace.
