Rear Timing Chain Case: Removal and Installation: Installation

  1. Install rear timing chain case as follows:
    1. Install new O-rings onto cylinder block.

    2. Install new O-rings to cylinder head and camshaft bracket (No. 1).

    3. Apply liquid gasket using Tool to rear timing chain case back side as shown.

      Tool number : WS39930000 (-) 

      Use Genuine RTV Silicone Sealant or equivalent. Refer to  RECOMMENDED CHEMICAL PRODUCTS AND SEALANTS  . 

      CAUTION:
      • For "A", completely wipe off liquid gasket covering the area shown in illustration.
      • Apply liquid gasket on installation position of water pump and cylinder head very completely.

    4. Align rear timing chain case with dowel pins (right and left) on cylinder block and install rear timing chain case.
      • Make sure O-rings stay in place during installation to cylinder block, cylinder head and camshaft bracket (No. 1).
    5. Tighten bolts in numerical order as shown in illustration.

      • There are two type of bolts with different torque specifications. Refer to the following for installing bolts.

      Bolt length Bolt position Torque specification 

      20 mm (0.79 in) 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 : 12.7 N.m (1.3 kg-m, 9 ft-lb) 

      16 mm (0.63 in) 4, 5, 11 : 12.7 N.m (1.3 kg-m, 9 ft-lb) 

      16 mm (0.63 in) 12 through 26 : 15.0 N.m (1.5 kg-m, 11 ft-lb) 

    6. After all bolts are tightened, retighten them to the specified torque in numerical order as shown.
      • If liquid gasket protrudes, wipe it off immediately.
    7. After installing rear timing chain case, check the surface height difference between following parts on oil pan (upper) mounting surface.

    Standard 

    Rear timing chain case to lower cylinder block: 

    -0.24 to 0.14 mm (-0.0094 to 0.0055 in) 

    • If not within the standard, repeat the installation procedure.
  2. Install water pump with new O-rings, if removed. Refer to WATER PUMP: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. Install timing chains and related components. Refer to [Timing Chain: Removal and Installation ] and [Secondary Timing Chain Tensioner Removal and Installation ].
  4. Install front timing chain case. Refer to Front Timing Chain Case: Removal and Installation .
  5. Install oil pan (upper) and (lower). Refer to OIL PAN AND OIL STRAINER: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
