DTC Detecting Condition and Trouble Area

DIAGNOSTIC INFORMATION AND PROCEDURES REFERENCE CHART

DTC detecting condition Trouble area
P2096: Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Lean 
Average of short term fuel trim based on HO2S is lower than -2.2% for 5 sec.
(2 D/C detection logic)
  • Vacuum leakage
  • Exhaust gas leakage
  • Fuel injector malfunction
  • HO2S and/or its circuit
  • A/F sensor and/or its circuit
  • Engine compression
  • Valve clearance
  • Intake and exhaust valve
  • Timing chain
  • Timing chain tensioner
  • ECM
P2097: Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System Too Rich 
Average of short term fuel trim based on HO2S is higher than 2.2% for 5 sec.

DTC Confirmation Procedure 

WARNING: If you do not select a suitable route and take proper precautions when performing a road test, an accident can occur.
  • Select a level road with no traffic to minimize the risk of accident.
  • Perform the test extremely carefully.
  • Perform the road test using 2 persons, a driver and an assistant.
NOTE:
  • If DTC other than aimed DTC are previously detected in DTC confirmation procedure, be sure to troubleshoot DTC previously detected.
  • Check that the following conditions are satisfied when using this procedure.
    • ECT > 65°C (149°F)
  1. Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
  2. Drive vehicle at 60 km/h (38 mile/h) or higher for 4 min.
